How to Get Involved in the MLK Day of Service in the Fairfax Area

Monday, January 21 is the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday, but more importantly, it’s also the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service. If you’ve never participated in this annual event, it encourages citizens to volunteer for an organization in their community in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his years of service in the Civil Rights Movement. Here are just a few ways that you can get involved in the Fairfax area.

Give Together Presented by Volunteer Fairfax. Volunteer Fairfax invites all area children to participate in Give Together, a family volunteer day designed to bring together families with elementary school-aged children to work on service projects that support local charitable efforts.

Volunteers for Change Valentine’s Day Challenge. On Sunday, January 20, this local organization will celebrate MLK Day by partnering with Great Expectations, Fairfax County Foster Care, and Foster Care to Success to create Valentine’s Day care packages to send out to former foster care children who are now enrolled in college.

Washington-Lee High School’s MLK Day of Service. Make this a "day on, not a day off" by participating in volunteer opportunities and training programs for all ages. Make sure to register online to get partnered with a program.
